T10 Tool Steel Chemical Composition, Mechanical Properties & Equivalent

T10 Tool Steel Properties

T10 steel is a Chinese most common carbon tool steel with moderate toughness and low production cost. After heat treatment, material hardness can reach above 60 HRC. However, this steel has low hardenability and poor heat resistance (250°C). It is not easy to overheat and still maintain fine grain. The toughness is acceptable, the strength and wear resistance are higher than T7, T8 and T9, but the hot hardness is low, the hardenability is still not high, and the quenching deformation is large.

Grade designation of T10 tool steel

  • T – Tool
  • 10 – The average carbon content – 10‰ (1%)
  • A – High quality

Mechanical Properties of T10 Tool Steel

  • Material Hardness: ≤197 HBW (Annealing); ≤241 (Cold drawing after annealing)
  • Material Hardness: ≥ 62 HRC (Sample quenching, 760 – 780℃, water)

Applications of T10 Material

T10 steel is widely used in the manufacture of tools with poor cutting conditions, high wear resistance and no sudden and severe impact vibration, but also requires certain toughness and sharp edges, such as turning tools and plane cutter, drills, taps, reaming tools, screw dies, milling cutters, hand saw blades. It can also make cold dies, stamping dies, wire drawing die, cold extrusion die for aluminum alloy, plastic molding die, small size cold trimming die and punching die, low precision and simple measuring tool (such as card board). It can also be used as a wear-resistant part that is not subject to large impact.

Delivery status: The steel is delivered in an annealed condition, and can also be delivered without annealing after agreement between the two parties.
